Terms of Service

1. Eligibility

You may use the Service only if you can form a binding contract with us under the law of your country. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and accepted these Terms on your behalf. The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under the digital-consent age in your country).

2. Your Account

You are responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential. Provide accurate information when you sign up, and update it if it changes. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access. You can delete your account at any time from the profile screen.

3. Acceptable Use

When using Dopus, you agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, or abusive purpose.
• Submit content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or that infringes another person's rights.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the app, except where this restriction is prohibited by law.
• Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system or network without our written consent, or interfere with the integrity or performance of the Service.
• Scrape, harvest, or systematically collect data from the Service, train machine-learning models on it, or resell its output without our prior written consent.
• Use the Service to send unsolicited messages, malware, or spam, or to impersonate any person.
• Bypass quotas, rate limits, paywalls, or other technical restrictions, or share your account credentials with anyone else.

4. User Content

You keep ownership of the words, lists, notes, and other material you submit to the Service ("User Content"). You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for formatting and AI processing), and display your User Content solely so that we can run the Service for you. You are responsible for your User Content and for having the rights to share it. We may remove User Content that violates these Terms.

5. AI-Generated Content

Definitions, examples, mnemonics, audio, images, and other content generated by AI inside the Service may be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated. Treat AI output as a study aid, not authoritative advice. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, or other important decisions. You are responsible for reviewing AI output before relying on it.

6. Intellectual Property

Dopus, the Octo mascot, the app design, the underlying software, the curated collections we publish, and the Dopus name and logo are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your personal, non-commercial language learning. All other rights are reserved.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service depends on third-party providers (Google, Apple, SendGrid, hosting and AI providers, app stores, and others). Your use of those services is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services and do not control their availability or behavior.

8. Subscriptions and Purchases

Some features may be offered as paid plans through Apple, Google, or another billing provider. Prices, billing cycles, taxes, and refund rules are shown at checkout and are governed by the relevant store's terms. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your store account.

9. Termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. On termination, your access ends and we may delete your data subject to the retention periods in the Privacy Policy.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that AI-generated content is accurate or suitable for any particular purpose.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dopus and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or USD 50. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted by local law and nothing here limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, or any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

12. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Dopus and its team from any claim, demand, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your User Content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms.

13. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. We will post the new version on this page and update the revision date below. Material changes will be announced inside the app. Your continued use of the Service after the update means you accept the revised Terms.

14. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved exclusively by the competent courts in Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence give you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts.
